The celebration of unwinding ⋒

In the Southern Hemisphere the Winter Solstice occurs on the 22 June this year - it's the shortest day & longest night - a celebration of the turning of the wheel and the rebirth of the sun.
Being guided by the moon and stars, the Earth begins her long, slow turn back towards the light. A beautiful time of year to bring warmth and light into our hearts.

Key features include:

  • Winter Goddess and King Winter are painted in shades indigo, seamist, midnight, teal, and silver.  With whimsical designs including wintery scenes, starts, moons, lanterns, toadstools and candles. Both wear a hand-stitched felt cape, covered in celestial embroidery. King Winter's cape is clasped with a small bell (bell colours will be selected at random and will be either blue or silver).
  • Our Goddess wears a hand-stitched wool felt hat covered in shining beads and an crescent moon. She also comes with either snow or storm coloured hair (see images for reference) - please leave a note at checkout specifying your colour preferences so I can try to accommodate.
  • King Winter wears a hand-stitched wool felt crown with mist and indigo appliques.
  • Each of our Sunlit Mini Folk are made from wood and stand approximately 9cm high & 4cm wide (at base).  They come within a handmade cotton drawstring bag for safe keeping.

Materials used - wood, non-toxic high quality acrylic paints, 100% hand-dyed wool felt, cotton thread, seed beads, and non-toxic / eco-friendly adhesive & sealer.

They are the perfect size for our felt treasure bags, which make the ideal carry bag to take them along with you on your daily adventures.

Symbology

Winter is a wonderful time of year to retreat inwards and reflect on the wonders of nature. A gentle reminder to slow down and reconnect with the universe.

In honour of this magical time of year, I wanted to mention a little Yuletide Tradition that can also be celebrated in the Southern Hemisphere.

The first task is to choose a special Yule log to burn on a fireplace hearth. The log should come from the root of a hardwood tree - like Tasmanian Oak, Mallee Roots or Eucalyptus.

As the burning wood dries out, the remains are kept and used to start next year's yule log burning. Year after year, the tradition continues ~ generation after generation.
